Itinerary: Positano
Walking tour in Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast
Positano (pics n°1 - n°2 - n°3) is one of the most beautiful towns I have ever seen. This colorful small village is perched on the steep rocks of Monti Lattari overlooking the clear blue waters of the Gulf of Salerno, on the Amalfi Coast. Here, you can enjoy beautiful views over unique landscapes from almost every corner of the city.
Its history goes back to the Roman Era, as it was founded by the inhabitants of Paestum. Between the 17th and 19th century, it was a poor fishing village. Nowadays it is one of the best-known vacation and holiday destinations in the world with exclusive hotels, restaurants, elegant cafes and many shops. It has amazing alleys, colorful houses, a small beach, and exclusive, international jet-set visitors and customers, among them many famous people, artists and actors (from Steinbeck to Picasso, from Klee to Liz Taylor or Rudolf Nureyev in the past). So, Positano is really just like a gem: small, beautiful and very precious!
What to do in Positano:
You can visit Church Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta (pics n°4 - n°5 - n°6), one of the most evocative attractions and one of the beautiful towers built by the Saracens during the Middle Ages, which served as protective fortifications.
Also, you should have a walk on "Sentiero degli Innamorati" (the Walk of Lovers), a romantic path that will allow you and your partner to enjoy breathtaking views.
In any case, the best thing to do in Positano is to get lost among the picturesque, narrow and wavy alleys with endless shops that offer local products and unique handmade treasures, or go down to the beach, or simply idle about in a cafe first, and then have a wonderful seafood dinner in some restaurant overlooking the sea, and maybe with a candle ... very romantic ...isn't it?
