Itinerary: La Thuile
The ski resort of La Thuile in the Aosta Valley
La Thuile is a ski resort located on the western side of the Aosta Valley, right on the border with France and linked to it through the historical Little St. Bernard Pass. The town is mainly known for its magnificent view of Mont Blanc and Rutor Glacier, and it is also one of the main points of reference for ski enthusiasts in the whole region. Many competitions, such as the world ski cup, are held here.
La Thuile's ski area is linked to the neighboring French resort of La Rosière, and this combined ski area called Espace San Bernardo offers 80 ski slopes covering 160 kilometers and served by 37 modern lifts. There are many kinds of slopes suitable for all level skiers: slopes for children, fabulous scenic trails, and even a legendary slope featuring a maximum inclination of 73%! This 4-kilometer slope is recommended to experts only.
The altitude of the ski resort of La Thuile ranges between 1441 and 2700 meters above sea level, and it also benefits from an especially favorable climate with a high amount of sunshine hours. For these reasons, a good ski experience is guaranteed from November to April. In the case of emergencies, hundreds of snow cannons guarantee excellent snow conditions throughout the season.
Away from the ski slopes, winter-sport enthusiasts can enjoy many kilometers of trails for cross-country skiing, snow-cross and boarder-cross areas in La Rosière, a snowkiting area and Wazimo Snow Park, a modern and well-equipped area for free ride skiers and snowboarders. If you are in search for adrenaline, heliskiing is what La Thuile offers as well.
There are several cafes along the slopes so that you can even stop and have a relax before restarting skiing again. If you stay in town, you can enjoy ice skating, walks in the wood with snow rackets, indoor climbing, adventure walks, or you can relax in a spa.
The town hosts many restaurants, shops and cafes, where to taste the local products, especially deserts like Tometta or Torta 1441.
