A beautiful island surrounded by the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia, is a multifaceted region that is located west of the mainland and offers visitors a great variety of uncontaminated landscapes and a charming contrast of colors and environments. Its main geographical features are a vast mountainous area in the middle of the island, which include the suggestive mountain range called Gennargentu, and an impressive coastline, characterized by a wild vegetation, white beaches, picturesque coves and unforgettable natural views.
A lot to do in Sardinia: the Nuragic complexes, monuments that are to be found all around the island, are evidence of an interesting and mysterious culture that dates back to many centuries before Christ. Flora and fauna lovers will be pleased with lots of places to explore, while beach and sea life enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice: Costa Smeralda, the beautiful and wild coast of Ogliastra, or the beaches in the Cagliari, Alghero, Stintino, Baia Sardinia, Santa Teresa areas, are just a few of the amazing beaches you can choose from to spend a relax day.
Also, pay a visit to the islands (Maddalena Archipelago, Caprera, Asinara, Budelli Island) or to some of the breathtaking caves and bays (such as Grotta di Nettuno, Grotta Bue Marino or Cala Goloritzé).
Food & Wine: eat good is easy here! Try the local breads called Pane Carasau or Pane Guttiau, different styles of pasta (malloreddus, fregola, culurgiones), the traditional Porceddu (grilled suckling pig), the famous Sardinian pecorino cheese, or fish-based dishes with fish eggs. Famous Vermentino or Cannonau are typical Sardinian wines, as well as Mirto, a delicious myrtle-based liquor.
